Description(s):
Myoglobin, an essential heme protein, is found in both cardiac and skeletal muscle, and it holds oxygen inside heart and skeletal muscles. Myoglobin has been used as an early marker for myocardial infract by measuring its levels in the sample. When the muscles are damaged, as in a heart attack, larger amounts of myoglobin are released into the bloodstream, causing the level to rise rapidly. Myoglobin is one of the first markers to rise above normal levels. Myoglobin levels increase measurably above baseline within 2-4 hours after a heart attack, peaking at 9-12 hours and returning to baseline within 24-36 hours. The Signosis' Myoglobin Immunoassay provides a rapid, sensitive, and reliable assay for the quantitative measurement of Myoglobin level in the sample.
